When looking to get your flyers, brochures, business cards etc printed, there are a few things you should carefully select to ensure you are not impacting your brands image in a negative way.
At MailPOST, we ask for specific details regarding your print requirements including the size, thickness and finish so we can produce your promotional material to suit the exact product you’re after.
The paper you choose for your flyers, business cards or other promotional material can subconsciously impact your brand as much as a poorly planned campaign, so it’s important to make the right decisions.
There are a few main things to consider when booking your printing service:
Paper Thickness
Usually, you will be asked what GSM you would like, the term ‘GSM’ stands for grams per square metre. The higher the GSM, the thicker the paper becomes. Thicker paper is usually selected to give a more professional look and feel to your flyers, brochures, business cards, menus etc. but it won’t always be suitable for every campaign.
If you’re not sure which thickness is right for your campaign, below are a few examples of the thicknesses used for different types of printed material.
- 35–55 GSM is most commonly used for newspapers. The paper is thin and effective for a heap of pages which are low cost and that don’t really need to last long.
- 90 GSM is typically the thickness of inner magazine pages.
- 150–170 GSM is what most people choose for flyer or brochure printing with 150 GSM being the most common.
- 250 GSM is the usual thickness of magazine covers, greeting cards and invitations. If you’re wanting to make your flyer really stand out amongst the thinner flyers or brochures and have a luxury feel, you would choose 250gsm.
- 350–400 GSM is classified as card stock and most commonly used for your business cards. If you’re after sturdy thick professional business cards you would not want to choose any GSM lower than 350.
Paper Finish
The option you choose for your paper finish could really change the entire look and feel of your flyer, brochure, business card or any material you are getting printed.
Untreated — Untreated paper is exactly that, it is not treated with any sort of laminate, it is not reflective making it suitable for everyday printing.
Gloss — Gloss paper is coated and has a shiny finish. Gloss makes the images on your flyer, brochure, menu etc really look great as it makes the colour pop when they are printed.
Matte — Matte paper has just a light coating that creates a smooth finish with little glare and a softer touch than a gloss finish. Matte finish creates an aesthetically pleasing appearance due to its clean, modern look.
